A Night of One Act Comedy!

3 Plays, 1 Fun Night!

Join us for A Night of One Act Comedy, presented by The Arts at Center Street! This lively evening features three original one-act plays—Black Friday, Real Meaningful, and It’s Elementary—each offering a hilarious, sharp take on modern life, from midnight sales lines and diner debates to hashtag activism. In collaboration with the Institute for GOD and featuring a talented cast of student performers, this one-night event promises laughter, insight, and a whole lot of heart.

Black Friday, An Original One Act By Gregg D. Garner

Black Friday is a hilarious and thought-provoking one-act comedy set in the wee hours outside the “Bestest Purchases Superstore,” where a ragtag line of eccentric shoppers wait for the doors to open and the deals to drop. But as personalities clash and motives surface, the play peels back layers of consumer culture, exposing how easily people—and the media—bend reality to fit their own agendas. Beneath the laughter and absurdity is a sharp commentary on performance, perception, and the fine line between real and manufactured truth in today’s world.

Real Meaningful: An Original One Act By Gregg D. Garner

Real Meaningful is a fast-talking, heartfelt one-act comedy that drops a group of college students into a late-night diner—tired, talkative, and unaware of how much they have to learn. What starts as friendly banter over coffee and pie spirals into awkward debates about race, identity, relationships, and truth, all under the watchful eyes of two hilariously blunt diner waitresses who may understand the world more than anyone at the table. As the group navigates offense, honesty, and humor, they inch closer to something rare in their social-media-soaked world: a real, meaningful moment.

It’s Elementary: A Musical One Act By Gregg D. Garner

It’s Elementary is a witty one-act musical that dives into the cultural shift of the early 2010s, when social media, twitter dialogue, and other virtual platforms took off. Set in a self-proclaimed “intentional community,” the show follows a cast of characters convinced that likes, hashtags, and filtered photos can change the world. With clever dialogue, original songs, and a satirical edge, the story builds to a surprising conclusion that challenges our understanding of authenticity, activism, and what it really means to be part of a community.
